We always love LABBS weekends in Harrogate and we knew this one was going to be extra special due to the 40th Anniversary celebrations taking place. From the History Room decorated with photos and costumes from the past 40 years, to the mass sing of Bohemian Rhapsody on Saturday afternoon, the weekend could not have been more well-coordinated by the LABBS Board and Members.
On the Friday we were excited to watch three members of our chorus, Hannah, Rachel & Erika plus our friend Kiera, compete with their Quartet, Cosmopolitan. Not only did they make it through to the Quartet Finals, they then came 4th overall! A fantastic achievement for this new quartet and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
We were also very proud of our MD Jo & Assistant MD Andrea as they surprised us with a fully costumed Disney package in the QC Competition with The MIX. We’ll never look at Jo’s nose or hands in the same way again! Congratulations ladies!
The chorus competition on Saturday was one of the best yet, with choruses performing at an incredibly high level. In new dresses and with new songs, Cheshire Chord Company performed to an excited audience and became very proud recipients of Silver medals with our best ever score of 82.3%! You can watch our performance here!
Celebrations ran well into the evening in the Afterglow, and we were lucky enough to be serenaded by our International guests, OC Times, plus BABS 2016 Winners, Cottontown Chorus. We send huge congratulations to Amersham A Cappella on winning Gold medals and to Crystal Chords on winning Bronze. Thank you for making this such a fantastic competition in the truest sense of the word.
At the show on Sunday, we once again had the opportunity to sing our competition songs along with ‘Leaning on a Lamppost’ where we surprised the crowd with the addition of ukuleles. Following the performance we were kept on stage whilst they announced the winner of the ‘Katy Philips Young Barbershopper of the Year’ award and it soon became clear that it had been won by one of our own members, Hannah Braham. There was not a dry eye on stage as Hannah collected her award from Teresa Philips. A perfect end to a fabulous weekend!
Thank you to all those that made this weekend possible and we look forward to LABBS 2017 in Bournemouth. Bring It On!
